Midlands showed me a beautiful day; sun covered the lovely landscape, green grass and grazing animals.
Liz and myself prepared for a day out. Ruth kept us company for the first half.
Our first stop was Monaghanstown where we were welcomed by Pat Rabbitt. Here we even met up with our guide for the day, Seamus Hynds .
It was six years since my last visit so there were a lot of new ponies to see and some older that I enjoyed meeting again. My favourite Fred was gone and replaced by the young Illaunurra Lad. Lad had matured a lot since I saw him at the Inspections 2009. He showed a great form just waiting for his mares to arrive.
We saw three foals by him and two more to come. Princess whom I saw as a young filly had grown up and reminded me of her dam Monaghanstown Star and was heavily in foal.
Three yearling fillies were very welcoming.
On the road again, back to Moate. With Seamus´ brother we saw a nice, deep, Westside Fred mare, Ballymore Silver Rose. She was in foal to Skousboe Morning Rock and would have the foal any day. After having seen all the Fred-performance ponies in Sweden it was so nice to see a breeding one.
Nearby we were presented to Seamus’ own mares. A Currachmore Cashel mare Tullana Lady caught my eye as well as an older one by Cloonisle Cashel. In the same field was Rosenaharley Laura Beth now retired to breeding after a successful ridden career, in foal to Hazy Match.
Time was getting late when we entered Garryhinch to meet Sean Dunne. First to greet us was Carra Cashel, 15 years old, looking so well. Beside him was the beautiful Banks Vanilla with a filly foal at foot.
Glad to meet 22 years old Coosheen Cuckoo expecting her foal in May. There was even her daughter with the family name “Sparrow” by Monaghanstown Boy. Suppose she is the one to carry on the genes after her dam.
It was getting late when Seamus turned the car towards Moate again. Ruth was waiting and the following day was the conference. It had been a day worth remembering and I would like to thank everybody for making it.
We could without any doubt go on for one more day. A lot still to be seen!!
